IMLCorp's Sound Commander SC3600
MIL-STD-810F for Ice, Humidity, and Blowing Rain Certification
In 2007, IMLCorp contracted FAI Materials Testing Laboratory to provide MIL-STD (military standard) testing on their Sound Commander SC3600 speaker system. We performed the following tests for them:
- High temperature operational above deck at 70°C for 120 and below deck at 49°C for 120 minutes. PDF
- Low temperature above deck at -40°C and below deck at -10°C both with a 120 minute cold soak followed by a 120 minute operational test. PDF
- Icing / freezing rain above deck with a 1 inch or 4.5 lbs/ft2 ice build-up over a 32 hour period followed by a 30 minute operational test. PDF
- Blowing rain above deck with three 30 minute cycles on each speaker module in different orientations with 10 minute operational tests. PDF
- Humidity on the complete system with 100% relative humidity for five cycles of 48 hours each with 60 minute operational tests. PDF
The system was tested for sonic output at 4 meters before testing began, after the salt fog, after the icing, after the blowing rain, and after the humidity exposures. While in many of the tests there appeared to be a reduction in sonic output during the operational testing, subsequent 4 meter tests demonstrated the function of the system had not changed.
